FOR JEANNIE-AGE 14 I laid down in my bed to sleep-emotions were so raw- There was no peace from deep within-I was witnessing what you saw. I didn't see it with you when you took the pain for me. You came along to save us-that's how you came to be. You couldn't let those tear drops fall, When they were so very mean. You stood there strong yet trembling- You couldn't even scream. Jeannie how much I love you- For helping to save this life. You bore the brunt of pain and carried all the strife. I cried last night and held you closely to my breast And told you that I love you for saving me and the rest. Dear child we cried together-for all our common pain And now we will walk together in the sunshine after rain. JULY 12,1997. Carol Other Poems |
